To prevent acoustic short circuiting, it is necessary to employ some kind of enclosure. In its most simple form, this may be a baffle but may also be one of many designs of cabinet such as fully enclosed speaker cabinets, bass reflex speaker cabinets, transmission lines, horns etc.
