Reactive component

The reactive component is the undesirable portion of the radiation resistance. It can be perceived by holding your hand in front of a bass speaker and feeling the movement of the air. The cone moves the air back and fore without contributing anything to sound production. This is particularly true where the cone diameter is small and the cone excursion is large. If a large amount of air is being pushed around, the undesirable reactive component is relatively large.
