Audiofrequency electrolytic capacitors

In electrolytic capacitors, the dielectric between the plates is a wafer-thin layer of oxide. This makes them smaller and cheaper than metallised capacitors. However, they have some disadvantages (lower electric strength, higher dielectric loss factor). Only bipolar radio frequency capacitors may be used for crossovers because electrolytic capacitors, as used in other applications, only conduct current in one direction.
