Sound particle velocity

The sound particle velocity tells us the speed at which the molecules of the medium oscillate about their rest position. This speed has nothing to do with the velocity of sound. The velocity of sound tells us how fast sound radiates. The speed at which sound travels is only influenced by the medium, not by the frequency. velocity of sound in various media: - air 343 m/s - water 1440 m/s - aluminium 6260 m/s - rubber 1480 m/s
