Sound radiation

With most loudspeakers, the sound is propagated by an oscillating diaphragm. This diaphragm can have any one of many shapes. In all cases, however, it works on basically the same principle as a piston moving back and fore. The diaphragm compresses or relaxes the air adjacent to it, which generates sound waves and these then spread out.
